Missing Your Spouse But She’s In Canada? She Can Sponsor You!

Ah, Canada. Bringing families together since… almost forever really. Canada values family unification and has made reuniting families one of the pillars of the Family immigration visa programs. The department of Citizen and Immigration Canada (CIC) presents a clear visa track for Canadian citizens or Canada permanent residents to sponsor their family members to come live with them. So if you’re missing your spouse but she’s in Canada – she can sponsor you!

So who can sponsor you to come live, work and travel in Canada?

  • Your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner

  • Your parents

  • Your grandparents

  • Your children (18 years old or more)

  • Your nephews, nieces or grandchildren under the age of 18 who are unmarried and whom parents are deceased

*Please note that if you and your spouse are living together outside of Canada, and he or she are applying for Canadian PR, they can include you in their own visa application.

*If you have a dependent child under the age of 19, they also can be included in that same application. Children who have certain disabilities may be included in your visa application regardless of their age.

Who can’t sponsor you to immigrate to Canada?

  • If your relative is in prison

  • If your relative is subject to a removal order

  • If your relative is in the process of bankruptcy

  • If your relative has tried to sponsor another family member and failed for not meeting the requirements

  • If your relative was sponsored in the first place

  • If your relative didn’t pay back immigration loans, or constantly missed payments

While immigrating to Canada on a Family visa is considered one of the simpler ways to move there, it’s important to know exactly what your options are considering both your relatives’ and your personal status.
